From painting our house to repairing our cars, nowadays comparative quoting is almost a norm when it comes to most items we purchase. But when it comes to our health, we seem to be satisfied to simply accept the diagnosis or advice we’re given by doctors or medical professionals the first time around. Given the high incidents of medical misdiagnoses reported by Mediguide, (18% of all original diagnoses are incorrect), why wouldn’t we get a second opinion? Especially in the case of critical illnesses when there is so much at stake. According to findings by specialised life insurers, FMI, a second opinion often isn’t sought after because of the additional costs incurred and the long-standing trust of family doctors.
