The Financial Intermediaries Association of Southern Africa (FIA) Transformation Subcommittee, chaired by Sikheto Sambo (Director, Marara Risk), and vice-chaired by Marcia Hlanjwa (CEO, Kuwala Brokers), is driving transformation in the sector. Alongside members Mpho Tshabadira (Director, Lore Wealth Financial Services), Tau Toti (Managing Director, Kelello Financial Services), and Abbot Pfukwa (CEO, Octomate Education), the Subcommittee advances the industry’s transformation agenda.

The Subcommittee has positioned the FIA as a leader in addressing the transformation challenges, particularly by promoting employment opportunities for South Africa’s youth.

1. Hosting the Black Broker Indaba.
2. Engaging leading insurers on transformation initiatives.
3. Identifying five cardinal pillars for transformation.
4. Facilitating strategic discussions with industry stakeholders.

The Subcommittee’s transformation strategy is built on five pillars:
1. Binder and Outsourced Agreements.
2. Access to Market.
3. Employment Creation via Learnerships, Internships and Work Integrated learning.
4. Enterprise Supplier Development.
5. Training and Development.
Way forward.
During a feedback session, hosted by FIA CEO: Lizelle van der Merwe and FIA Regulatory Specialist: Brad Frank. The importance of transformative products and innovation was underscored. Mpho Tshabadira emphasized the need to maintain momentum. Sikheto Sambo called for leveraging the FIA platform to drive transformation. Financial inclusion and youth unemployment are key challenges needing attention. Abbot Pfukwa emphasized the ongoing need for patience and perseverance in transformation engagements.
Marcia Hlanjwa expressed gratitude to the FIA CEO: Lizelle, for prioritizing transformation matters. Marcia called for collaboration among all stakeholders, such as FIA, INSETA, Insurers, and the Broader Transformation Network—to address youth unemployment.
Mr Tau Toti encouraged the subcommittee to re-engage insurers and pursue the next part of the transformation agenda. Tau stated that the transformation promise transcends individual ambitions. It represents the hopes and aspirations of the Broader Transformation Network and future generations.
