Good bye doctor, professor

08 September 2004 Angelo Coppola

It is with the utmost sadness that we report the passing away of Tienie van der Berg, editor and publisher of FAnews Magazine, and inspiration for FAnews Online, on Monday 6 September 2004.

Tienie was one of those rare old school gentlemen who always had time to tell a story. He had a wonderful insight into the industry in which he chose to be, and knew most of the people in it.

And in case you never had the opportunity to meet him, he always arrived at press conferences and business meetings dressed impeccably in a bowtie and jacket – almost his signature.

A gentle man and a kind and gentle soul who will be sorely missed by all who knew him… Goodbye Doctor Professor.

QUESTION

The second draft amendments to Regulation 28 will allow retirement funds to allocate up to 45% of their assets to SA infrastructure, with a further 10% for rest of Africa; but the equity & offshore caps remain unchanged. What are your thoughts on the proposal?

ANSWER

Infrastructure? You mean cash returns with higher risk!?!
Infrastructure cap is way too high
Offshore limit still needs to be raised
Who cares… Reg 28 does not apply to discretionary savings
