Platinum Health Outsources Remittance Advice Process to Business Edge

06 December 2007 | Technology | General | Business Edge

Banking and Insurance systems specialist, Business Edge, has been awarded a contract to produce and distribute remittance advices to Platinum Health’s suppliers.

Remittance advices are distributed by mail, fax or electronically using technology from Business Edge partner, InfoSlips. Platinum Health aim to migrate all mailed and faxed remittance advices to InfoSlips as the acceptance of this medium grows in its supplier base.

Commenting on the decision to outsource this process, Dan le Roux, MD of Platinum Health said, “We deal with a large number of claims from healthcare providers countrywide each month. In addition to prompt payment, suppliers require the ability to reconcile remittances with claims easily. Our existing process is fragmented, largely manual and involves two vendors. A remittance advice can typically contain thousands of claim lines, so delivering it electronically provides significant benefits. For example, suppliers can export the remittance advice into Excel for further analysis. As a result, we expect the number of enquiries from our suppliers to drop significantly with the implementation of this technology. Business Edge provides managed application support for our medical aid system and has a good understanding of our supplier business processes. This, and their ability to integrate the remittance process with our administration system, made them the obvious choice for us.”

Business Edge implemented the solution in collaboration with Platinum Health and the InfoSlips team. Platinum Health cut-over to the new process in May.

The InfoSlips technology brings significant administrative efficiencies, improves service to suppliers and projects the Platinum Health brand throughout the supplier base. This is achieved through:

  • an interface with the administration system where supplier details are maintained;
  • secure, compressed delivery via email – even on dial-up links used by some medical practitioners;
  • Platinum Health branding;
  • a feedback channel that allows queries to be directed back to the right person in Platinum Health for faster resolution;
  • intuitive user controls that allow: filtering to isolate areas of interest; drill-down into transaction details; sorting and seamless export to Microsoft Excel for further analysis;
  • archiving, reprint and redistribution capability.

Director of Business Edge’s insurance division, Karen Malkin, comments: “This solution enables suppliers to quickly reconcile payments and claims and resolve many queries themselves – thereby reducing administrative effort. Platinum Health is now considering expanding this solution into other areas of their business, for example member statements.
