What’s inside… FAnews Magazine June 2026
It is hard to believe that we have already reached the halfway mark of 2026. The year has moved quickly, bringing with it a familiar mix of opportunity, uncertainty, resilience, and change. While economic pressures continue to challenge businesses and households alike, one thing remains clear: our industry has an important role to play in helping South Africans navigate an increasingly complex future. That future is not only shaped by market performance, political developments, or technological advancement. It is also shaped by life's unexpected moments.
Momentum Life Insurance's latest claims experience offers a sobering reminder of this reality. Their findings reveal that many South Africans are financially prepared for death, but not necessarily for surviving a serious illness.
Critical illness claims have increased significantly, with cancer and cardiovascular conditions continuing to dominate claim statistics. Perhaps most concerning is the protection gap highlighted by the data, with many clients lacking the cover needed to deal with the financial consequences of surviving a life-altering event. It is a timely reminder of the important role advisers play in helping clients prepare not only for the end of life, but also for the challenges that can arise while living it.
The second half of the year also brings valuable opportunities to connect and share ideas. In July, the AIE Conference will once again bring the non-life insurance industry together for learning, networking and meaningful conversations. In August, the inaugural Insurance Conference Western Cape takes place on 20 and 21 August at Plaisir Wine Estate in the Cape Winelands. FAnews is proud to be a media partner to both events and looks forward to sharing the insights and conversations that emerge.
As always, progress begins with curiosity. It starts when we ask better questions, challenge assumptions, share knowledge, and remain open to new perspectives.
