The Nedcor Economic Unit says that there are several economic releases due this week.

The consensus forecast is for a trade deficit of R2.4bn. The Investec purchasing managers index (PMI) for July will be released on Tuesday, while retail sales for May and vehicle sales for June are due on Wednesday.

The Reserve Banks Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will meet on Wednesday and Thursday. In line with market expectations, the Economic Unit expects the MPC to raise the repo rate by 50 basis points to 8% on Thursday afternoon.
