Rhythm and blues?

07 April 2004 | Retirement | Savings & Investments | Angelo Coppola

Some months ago, James A. B. Downie, who runs www.assetbase.co.za, quoted the words of a Shania Twain song called Ka-Ching which generated a great deal of response from recipients so thanks for all the e-mails.

Since then, several other SA investment newsletters have quoted words from all sorts of artists so it must be a good idea to use pop artists to describethe crazy thingshappening in the world markets.

To go from the sublime (Shania Twain)to the ridiculous (Will Young, he of UK Pop Idols fame), I will quote (with a little paraphrasing)words from Will's latest song although I don't think he's singing about the stock market, however fitting the words may be to investments!

I think I'd better leave right now before I fall any deeper

I think I'd better leave right now it's feeling weaker and weaker...

... I'm a little more careful, perhaps it shows

But if I lose the highs at least I'm spared the lows.

The last two lines are particularly appropriate for investors, especially those who invest other people's money.
