Discussions on the Short-term Insurance sector’s changing regulatory landscape took centre stage at Centriq Insurance’s UMA Conference, held at the Royal Marang Hotel near Sun City in October this year.

Speakers included Michael Blain, CEO of Centriq Insurance and Seamus Casserly of First Equity, among others.

“At least now that we have tangible proposals on the table and we have seen the regulatory road map unfold, we can start implementing it,” said Blain. He added that although a painful transition period can be expected, tighter legislation to improve regulator and consumer confidence in the sector should be embraced by all.”

Martin Le Roux, Business Channel Head: UMA’s at Centriq Insurance said that the company is excited about increasing their UMA footprint in the marketplace next year. “We are proud of the UMA’s we partner with as all of them are premier underwriters with impeccable records. And it is for this very reason that Centriq will continue to support the UMA business model” said Le Roux. Centriq arranged for Martin’s wife, Chanine and his daughter Darryl to join him as a surprise for his 40th Birthday, not forgetting a delicious custom-made Glock birthday cake.

Delegates could enjoy a game drive or participate in a variety of activities, such as horse-riding, quad-biking, paintballing, swimming and golf while the less adventurous turned to the spa for some relaxation and pampering.

Other entertainment included the fire and belly dancers from Fiery Light, which have proven to be great fun and entertainment for all delegates who deserved a break after what can be described as one of the most eventful years in the history of South African insurance.
