Tracker filters out seven criminals and recovers R3-million load

28 November 2006 | People and Companies | News | Gareth Crocker

A Tracker recovery crew and members of the Belfast SAPS today (November 27, 2006) recovered a hijacked truck together with its R3-million cargo of cigarettes and arrested seven suspects near Belfast in Mpumalanga.

The driver of the truck was traveling between Belfast and Middelburg when he and his colleague were hijacked by two armed men. They were taken hostage for a short while before being dropped on the side of the road near Wonderfontein where they activated the vehicle's Tracker.

"Within half-an-hour the truck was recovered together with another vehicle which was helping to transport the load. We managed to arrest seven suspects and the police will be investigating to see if they can be linked to other crimes, particularly other hijackings and heists in the region," says Tracker's Communications Manager, Gareth Crocker.

"Trucks are often stolen for their loads so it's very satisfying for us when we not only recover the vehicle and its payload, but arrest the guys responsible as well," says Crocker.
