Tourism body honours specialist insurance innovator
Joan Jackson, head of Etana Wildlife & Tourism, has received a prestigious award from the Southern African Tourism Services Association (SATSA).
This is in recognition of her outstanding service and her valuable contribution to the tourism industry in the Southern African region.
“For the past 11 years Joan has continuously contributed towards risk management to uplift the standards in the tourisms industry and to provide insurance support as well as specialist knowledge. We’re proud that her entire VEA Team of tourism and wildlife innovators joined Etana in March,” says Carel Nolte, head of People and Brand at Etana.
Joan was a founder member for SATSA in the former Free State Province and the Kingdom of Lesotho where she was chapter chair as well as their representative on the main board.
“The wildlife industry has seen major growth during the last seven years and the 2010 World Cup boosted tourism. This makes the need for specialist insurance for those industries in South Africa essential and in Joan’s expertise and innovation Etana now adds specialist wildlife and tourism insurance to our service as South Africa’s largest dedicated business insurer – with no direct selling.”
Extreme experiences are now being offered by the tourism industry. “These include Zipline Tours, Paddle Skiing, Kite Surfing, Canopy Tours and Kloofing where extremists dive into pools from dizzy heights. It is essential that Etana keep up with these new insurance needs and that we keep pace with all the fast-paced developments in tourism as well as wildlife. Thanks to Joan and her team, Etana is on the cutting edge and is offering brokers truly competitive products.”
