15 October 2025 | People and Companies | News | The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA)

Nine of South Africa's brightest young minds will go head-to-head at the national finals of the Financial Literacy Speech Competition (FLSC).

This flagship initiative of the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), in partnership with the Financial Services Consumer Education Foundation (FSCEF), and the nine provincial Departments of Basic Education, will take place at the Garden Court Hotel on Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Cape Town on 17 October 2025.

The competition aims to nurture financial literacy at school level and empower learners to make informed financial decisions.

Thousands of Grade 11 learners from more than 300 non – fee-paying schools across the country took part in this year’s competition, showcasing their knowledge of money management and personal finance. From each district, one top-performing learner advanced to the provincial finals, held in September. The nine provincial winners will now meet at the national finals to compete for top honours.

The finalists are:
1. Zamaswazi Fakude from KwaZulu- Natal
2. Khanya Kasa from the Eastern Cape
3. Alice Sipuru from Gauteng
4. Ofentse Monnamolwe from the North West
5. Olwethu Nikani from the Northern Cape
6. Lerato Maduna from the Frees State
7. Dimpho Ndhlovu from Limpopo
8. Lazitha Ngwenya from Mpumalanga and
9. Lerato Masakale from the Western Cape.

Each provincial winner received a R40 000 investment prize, a tablet with a gig of data and an all-expenses paid trip to Cape Town to participate in the national finals.

In this final round the learners will present speeches that test their financial literacy knowledge, understanding of money management, and views on entrepreneurship. The top three national winners will walk away with an additional R40 000, R20 000 and R10 000, respectively.

Each winner will also receive a full bursary worth up to R580 000.00 to study at a public tertiary institution of their choice. In addition, the schools of the provincial winners will each receive education material to the value matching the winnings of their respective learner.

Through the FLSC, the FSCA aims to promote financial literacy and wellness not only among learners but also their families and broader communities, building a generation that understands the value of saving, investing, and responsible financial decision-making.
