In support of the United Nation (UN)’s Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger, Sanlam Investments has donated R350 000 to the Ladles of Love Foundation’s “Feed the Soil” programme.
This contribution will contribute to fund a refrigerated vehicle to collect fresh produce from vulnerable small farming communities in Cape Town, directly enhancing the urban farmers ability to sell better quality produce and supporting sustainable food systems in the region.
Ladles of Love, well-known for its efforts in supporting education through meal distribution in Early Childhood Development (pre-school) centres, has expanded its focus to include sustainability with the “Feed the Soil” programme. This programme fosters community resilience by providing locally grown produce, supporting local agriculture, and encouraging healthy, balanced diets. The refrigerated vehicle, largely funded by Sanlam Investments’ donation, will enable the safe and efficient transport of fresh produce, ensuring the highest quality nutrition reaches the markets and those in need.
“Supporting ‘Feed the Soil’ aligns with our commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, specifically the UN Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger,” says Robert Thompson, Head of Marketing & Communications at Sanlam Investments. “This collaboration allows us to make a tangible impact on local communities while promoting sustainable practices in food distribution. Our commitment to ESG perfectly aligns with Ladles of Loves’ heartfelt mission to change lives by making wholesome food available to all.”
Danny Diliberto, founder of Ladles of Love, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: “Ladles of Love is about more than merely providing meals. It’s about dignity, respect, and creating the kind of world we all want to live in. By partnering with Sanlam Investments, we’re able to strengthen our commitment to providing nutritious, wholesome food, supporting farmers to grow sustainable produce, and empowering food entrepreneurs to build businesses that uplift our economy. Together, we are building a healthier, more resilient community.”
The partnership between Sanlam Investments and Ladles of Love underscores Sanlam Investments’ dedication to long-term community impact. By supporting food security, sustainable food systems, and local agriculture, the initiative aims to nurture a healthier and more resilient Cape Town. This contribution is expected to make a considerable difference, empowering both the programme’s participants and the broader community.
