23 August 2013 | People and Companies | News | PPS

PPS, the financial services provider focused on graduate professionals, today announced the launch of a competition amongst university students that will see four winners being sponsored to attend the One Young World Summit 2013 taking place in Johannesbu

The annual One Young World summit brings together a star-studded list of Counsellors - consisting of global leaders from business, politics, fashion, science and sport – and 1 300 young leaders from over 180 countries around the world, to address solutions to challenges across fields such as education, global business, human rights, sustainable development and transparency.

New Counsellors for this year’s Summit include Boris Becker, who at 17 became the youngest ever men’s Wimbledon champion, and Francois Pienaar, who captained South Africa to the Rugby World Cup in 1995 at the age of 28.

Another in the line-up is 25-year-old model, actress and social entrepreneur Lily Cole, a champion of humanitarian and environmental causes. Cole is also the founder of an innovative social networking platform that encourages people to offer skills and services to one another free of charge.

While One Young World delegates are aged 18 – 30, PPS - One Young World delegates for Summit 2013 must be 18-25 years old at the time of the summit and must be in their 4th academic year of full time study, who on qualification, will be eligible for PPS membership. In addition, PPS - One Young World delegates must have a commitment to volunteering for other extracurricular activities.

The competition requires students to submit a video which demonstrates their passions, global and local knowledge, ideas and their potential and existing role in effecting positive change in society or their organisation. Qualifying students should visit www.ppsinnercircle.co.za/OYW (website best viewed in Mozilla Firefox, download the browser here: http://www.mozilla.org) for more information on how to create and upload their YouTube video and fill in their application.

According to Gerhard Joubert, Executive Head: Group Marketing & Stakeholder Relations of PPS, with the current skills shortage facing many professions in South Africa it is becoming increasingly critical to identify and support young leaders who are motivated to address the challenges faced by society. “The PPS One Young World competition provides an excellent opportunity for South Africa’s inspired young leaders to make their mark in the world and build ever-lasting relationships with influential people.”

Catherine Peter, Africa Director - One Young World, says it is crucial that the fourth One Young World summit - the first held on the African continent in the young and vibrant City of Johannesburg - gathers future leaders from all industries and perspectives and from all walks of life. “Companies and organisations such as PPS are contributing to identifying and nurturing young leaders, and will lead the way in terms of doing better business here on the continent."
