As part of its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme, PPS Insurance, the only insurance company that caters exclusively for graduate professionals, recently donated R410,000 to Stellenbosch University. This donation will be used to upgrade the Student Representatives Council Boardroom, which will contribute towards promoting vibrant student environment as well as a healthy campus community.

Gareth Cornelissen, co-ordinator of corporate fundraising at a Stellenbosch Foundation, Stellenbosch University, said that he is excited about the willingness of PPS Insurance to make an unconditional donation towards this refurbishment project.

“The much-needed funds will assist the university to further the interests of its students, at every level. It will also make an invaluable contribution towards assisting the Student Representatives Council to achieve its vision of creating a healthy community through interaction and visionary leadership, as part of a world-class university,” says Cornelissen.

The boardroom will be equipped with basic furniture, apparel will be replaced and communication equipment will be installed. Upon completion of this project in March 2009, the room will have transformed from a dilapidated boardroom into a professional conference facility for students to use with pride.

“This donation shows that PPS Insurance is committed to academic institutions across South Africa as well as graduate professionals,” says Cornelissen.

As a token of appreciation, Stellenbosch University has granted PPS Insurance naming rights to the boardroom as well as the opportunity to brand the newly refurbished boardroom with the PPS Insurance logo, for a period of five years. The university further offered to create opportunities so that students in their 4th year of study, studying towards one of the PPS eligible professions, are made aware of the benefits of joining the PPS Inner Circle.

In addition to this refurbishment sponsorship, PPS Insurance granted R1,14 million to other universities in South Africa, during 2007, including University of Cape Town, University of KwaZulu-Natal, North West University, University of Pretoria and University of Western Cape.

PPS Insurance is dedicated to the upliftment of the South African community and education, according to Mike Jackson (pictured right), the Chief Executive Officer.

“Students are professionals in training and are of great importance to PPS Insurance and South Africa’s future and ongoing success,” says Jackson.
