Old Mutual announces iWYZE executive resignation

03 April 2014 Old Mutual

Old Mutual has announced the resignation of Willem Smith, Chief Executive of iWYZE.

Smith will join Hollard as Managing Director of Personal Lines.

Crispin Sonn, Managing Director of Old Mutual’s Retail Mass business, thanked Smith for his valuable business contribution. ‘Willem and his team created iWYZE in 2010 as a joint initiative between Old Mutual and Mutual & Federal. We would like to congratulate Willem on this appointment – besides being a great opportunity for him it is a significant vote of confidence in his skills and capabilities. He will be leaving a solid foundation and a strong team to take on the next wave of opportunity”.

Reflecting on the difficulty in making the decision Smith said: "This has been an extremely difficult decision in light of what we have built in iWYZE but I am confident that I’m leaving behind something that is ready for growth to the next stage”.

Smith has agreed that he would not leave the Old Mutual group immediately, in order to ensure continuous operational leadership of iWYZE for the next three months. This transition period will give the company time to recruit an appropriate replacement. During this time Coenraad de Jaager, Executive: Personal Lines at Mutual & Federal will continue to play a leadership role in the business.
