The launch of the brand new live music series, Lion of Africa Music Expressions, on Sunday, 28 April, looks set to showcase some of SA’s best local talent in an exciting series of events.

Sponsored by Lion of Africa Insurance, the first of the nine monthly music concerts was hosted at the Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City, south of Johannesburg and featured Simphiwe Dana, a local multi-award winner and internationally acclaimed artist dubbed the ‘Goddess of South African Cool’. Dana was supported by well-known jazz artist, Tshepo Mngoma.

Rethabile Mahuma, Manager: Corporate Communications at Lion of Africa Insurance, says the first show was a huge success, with the theatre filled with music lovers and fans of Simphiwe Dana and Tshepo Mngoma. “We are very proud to be associated with an initiative that aims to develop South Africa’s young musical talent and showcase local music and theatrical talent from different cultures from all around the country,” she says.

According to Mahuma, as one of the premier music shows on Gauteng’s monthly music calendar, the series will feature some of South Africa’s top music performers alongside other emerging creative talent in the performing arts.

The Lion of Africa Music Expressions series will take place once a month on a Sunday over a period of nine months and is to be staged at various theatres in Gauteng and Tshwane, with plans to reach other provinces at a later date. Tickets available at Computicket and at the door.
