Mutual & Federal, a member of the Old Mutual Group, in partnership with the National Emergent Red Meat Producers’ Organisation (NERPO) officially handed over livestock dipping and handling facilities to the community of Lehurutshe in the North-West provin

The project is part of a commitment by Mutual & Federal to sponsor installations and repairs of farming infrastructure in each of the nine provinces. In this latest project, five crush pens, each equipped with a neck clamp, generators, spray race and loading ramp were installed in Driefontein, Rietpan, Gopane, Borakalalo and Moshana cattle posts.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mr. LeRoy Munetsi, Executive: Africa and New Markets at Mutual & Federal, said: “The Livestock Handling & Dipping Facilities initiative started two and a half years ago to address key infrastructural needs for livestock handling and tick control among South Africa’s rural farming communities.”

Mr. Aggrey Mahanjana, Group Managing Director of NERPO, thanked Mutual & Federal for supporting emerging South African livestock farmers. He said that the facilities will contribute to the primary healthcare of livestock in Lehurutshe and help farmers improve their competencies as commercial farmers.

Accepting the facilities on behalf of the provincial government and the community of Lehurutse were the Mayor for Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality, Councillor Africa Thale, and Dr Kgabi Mogajane, Head of Department for North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In her address, Dr Mogajane encouraged farmers to ensure proper control and management of these facilities, through the management committees that have been formed.

Mutual & Federal is committed to helping emerging farmers protect what is important to them and will continue to bring similar opportunities to other farming communities across the country. Six dipping tanks are currently under construction for farming communities in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
