Small businesses are the heartbeat of South Africa’s economy, yet they continue to face mounting pressure.

Recent data from Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) revealed that 155 businesses were liquidated in July 2025, a 16.5% increase compared to July 2024. This underscores the fragile state of the economy and raises concerns about job security.

Amid these challenges, Momentum Insure is reaffirming its commitment to helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) build resilience and unlock growth. As a proud partner of the National Small Business Chamber (NSBC), Momentum Insure participated in The Business Show 2025, Africa’s largest SME conference, held on 3–4 September at the Sandton Convention Centre.

“SMEs are the backbone of job creation and innovation in South Africa, and their ability to weather economic storms directly impacts our nation’s growth,” says Sharmini Gangee, National Head: Business Development Consultant (BDC) distribution channel at Momentum Insure. “Our role is to stand beside small businesses, offering not just insurance solutions tailored to their needs, but also the support, insights, and networks that help them thrive in tough times.”

Stats SA also reported that other liquidations rose by 12.4% in the three months ending July 2025 compared to the same period last year, with sectors such as finance, insurance, real estate and business services (54 liquidations), trade and accommodation (27), and construction (7) hardest hit. These figures highlight the urgent need to strengthen SMEs as the backbone of the economy.

At The Business Show, Momentum Insure engaged directly with entrepreneurs through interactive consultations, practical business insights, and networking opportunities designed to create lasting value. “Our message to small business owners is simple: resilience today builds growth tomorrow,” adds Gangee. “Momentum Insure is here to help SMEs stay protected, feel supported, and gain the confidence to push forward, even in uncertain times.”

Through its partnership with the NSBC, Momentum Insure continues to position itself as a trusted partner for South Africa’s small business community by standing for their resilience, growth, and long-term success.
