Medihelp Medical Scheme’s Board of Trustees respectfully announces the sudden passing due to natural causes of Ettie da Silva, the principal officer of the Scheme on Sunday, 11 June 2023.
“On behalf of the board, executive team, and all Medihelp employees, we want to extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and daughter, whom she described as her biggest inspiration,” said Chris Klopper, chairperson of Medihelp’s Board of Trustees.
“We are profoundly saddened by Ettie’s passing. She and her team have worked tirelessly over the past four years, and achieved great success in implementing her strategic vision for the organisation.”
Under her leadership, the Scheme repositioned the brand, increased the competitiveness of its product offering, turned membership results around, and delivered net growth in a stagnant industry with Medihelp’s principal membership now edging on the 100 000 mark.
“It was a privilege to have worked alongside such a thoughtful and passionate person as Ettie. She was a true leader, and cared deeply for the environment and the well-being of every employee and member. Ettie was instrumental in moving Medihelp’s offices to create a healthier and safer workspace. She also spearheaded the implementation of numerous new corporate social investment projects in the organisation.”
Prior to joining Medihelp, Ettie held various distinguished positions in prominent corporate entities and her 17 years in legal practice stood her in good stead to add enormous value to the healthcare sector.
Johan Viljoen, the current head of Operations at Medihelp, shared Ettie’s vision for the organisation and has been appointed in the interim as acting principal officer. Viljoen has vast industry experience and will continue to work with the board and the executive team in the execution of the strategy until a permanent appointment is made.
“We want to assure Medihelp members and other stakeholders that we will not waver in our commitment to continue to provide the best possible service and support to all and to keep you abreast of unfolding developments,” Klopper concluded.
