Liberty Life’s instant millionaire rewarded for getting a financial plan

19 March 2008 | People and Companies | News | Liberty Life

Get your finances in order and pick up a cheque for R1 million for doing it!

This once-in-a-lifetime proposition will come true tomorrow (Wednesday, March 19) for the winning finalist in Liberty Life’s unique ‘Get a Plan, Get a Life’ promotion.

Finalists didn’t even have to buy any of the life insurer’s products to qualify for entry as the ‘Get a Plan, Get a Life’ contest was designed to build the habit of proper financial planning among South African consumers.

Drawing up a proper, needs-driven strategy with the assistance of a professional financial planner was the core requirement for those looking to become an instant millionaire.

Today, 10 finalists from a preliminary draw will be on hand for the final draw at The Venue, Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, to find out who pockets R1 million for a financial plan.

Howard Fox (pictured right), Divisional Director for Liberty noted: “We did not link ‘Get a Plan, Get a Life’ to the promotion of any specific product as we believe it is in the national interest to support the overall concept of objective needs analysis in the development of personal financial plans that help South Africans provide for the future.

“More than 30 000 entry forms were received and competition organisers estimate that more than 150 000 people, including adult and child dependants are now covered by a proper financial plan as a direct result of the campaign. In many cases, they were engaging in comprehensive planning of their insurance and saving needs for the first time in their lives.

“It’s wonderful to have a big winner here today for the grand prize, but everyone who engaged in this process – all 150 000 of them – are winners. It is vital, however, that the life industry reach out to the millions of South Africans who fail to save regularly and make little or no provision for the future. Growing consumer distress in our high-interest environment makes this a national priority.”

Finalists are: Bakang Joyce Motshwane (Sandton), Edward William Crossland (Cape Town), Elisabeth Brigitte Stagal (East London), Ian Walters (Benoni), Lucas Marthinus Coreejes (Stellenbosch), Lyn Sandra Jeffery (Bedfordview), Nick de Haas (Cape Town), Nobesuthu Mavis Toyi (East London), T T Matanzima (Pretoria) and Wendy van der Westhuizen (Pretoria).

The ‘Get a Plan, Get a Life’ promotion was launched nationwide in October following a multi-media campaign and closed in time for the end of the tax year on February 29.
