Liberty Life financial planning pays off for instant millionaire
It had to be the fastest pay-off ever for prudent financial planning.
Financial services leader Liberty Life today (Wednesday, March 19) turned Lyn Jeffery from Bedfordview into an instant millionaire at the national finals of the life insurer’s unique ‘Get a Plan, Get a Life’ promotion.
Lyn was not even required to buy a Liberty Life product. All she had to do to qualify for entry into the ‘Get a Plan, Get a Life’ competition was to develop a proper financial plan with the help of a professional financial planner.
Lyn, a mother of two and herself a financial manager, was one of 10 finalists. Their names all went into the final draw at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg.
When her name was drawn, Lyn was overwhelmed.
“Financial planning sure pays and I know because I’m also in financial management” was the overjoyed comment from this over-the-moon winner.
Officiating at the presentation of the R1 000 000 cheque were Andre du Plessis, CEO, Individual Life, and Howard Fox, divisional director, marketing.
Liberty Life’s biggest ever consumer promotion was designed to encourage the financial planning habit. Drawing up a proper, needs-driven strategy with the assistance of a professional financial planner was the key requirement.
More than 30 000 entry forms were received. Organisers estimated that more than 150 000 people, including adult and child dependants are now covered by a proper financial plan as a direct result of the campaign. In many cases, the entrants were engaging in comprehensive planning of their insurance and saving needs for the first time in their lives.
Howard Fox commented: “All 150 000 participants in this process are winners. The return may not be as instant as that achieved by Lyn, but the benefits in years to come will be significant.
“We at Liberty Life are making a concerted effort to reach out to the millions of South Africans who fail to save regularly and make little or no financial provision.
“Proper financial planning is vital to their future and the future of our nation. The big win by Lyn sends out an important message. If you want to win tomorrow you have to plan today.
“We pray that message will be taken to heart.”
Other finalists were: Bakang Joyce Motshwane (Sandton), Edward William Crossland (Cape Town), Elisabeth Brigitte Stagal (East London), Ian Walters (Benoni), Lucas Marthinus Coreejes (Stellenbosch), Nick de Haas (Cape Town), Nobesuthu Mavis Toyi (East London), T T Matanzima (Pretoria) and Wendy van der Westhuizen (Pretoria).
The ‘Get a Plan, Get a Life’ promotion was launched nationwide in October following a multi-media campaign and closed in time for the end of the tax year on February 29.
