Liberty Empowers South African Students for Success During Exam Season

09 November 2023 | People and Companies | News | Liberty

The arrival of exam season brings with it a familiar wave of anticipation and anxiety for students and their families across the nation. It's a time when the culmination of a year's learning is put to the test, and the pressure to perform can often feel overwhelming.

In this critical period of understanding complex concepts and facing hurdles throughout preparation, 'Liberty Learn' is enabling pupils to harness the necessary capabilities to thrive, as a platform that offers a sanctuary of knowledge and support, enabling them to tackle their studies with assurance and personalised guidance.

"Education shapes the future of our nation, igniting the potential within communities and enabling individuals to craft the reality they envision. This contribution through the 'Liberty Learn' channel underscores the company’s unwavering pledge to enhance education, with a spotlight on pivotal subjects like Mathematics, Science, and English," said Marees Bostander, Head of Brand Strategy and Sponsorships at Liberty.

Liberty Learn was built upon the legacy of the Learning Channel, a pioneer of distance education in the late '90s, and its subsequent evolution into Mindset Network in 2003. The channel takes the successful model of TenFold, a native code-based educational app, to a broader platform, delivering dynamic content via broadcast television, complemented by a robust, interactive mobile application.
The new channel offers an expanded curriculum, covering all school grades, and includes content aligned to the Cambridge International Curriculum. It also unearths a treasure trove of archival educational content, making it accessible to the public for the first time.

"Exam season compresses a year's worth of learning into a critical juncture, often bringing a tide of stress that can overshadow the learning journey. However, mastering this stress is a valuable life skill, one that can transform a challenge into a steppingstone for success," said Dylan Green - CEO of Mindset Africa.
Green offered the following practical advice to pupils:

Take it one step at a time: If studying gets overwhelming, it's okay to take a break. Everyone feels the pressure, and it's completely normal. Make sure to get enough sleep and stay active with some exercise — both are great for keeping your focus sharp.
Make a study plan: Think about the questions that might come up in the exams and focus your study around the big topics. Manage your time well and if something seems too challenging, take a break and revisit it later with fresh eyes.
Create a study routine that fits you: If you're an early riser, use that time for studying and maybe unwind with sports in the afternoon. If you're a night owl, that's fine too. The important thing is to work in a way that feels right for you.
Don't be afraid to ask for help: When you're stuck, talking about it with friends or classmates can make a big difference. Join or start a study group for those tricky subjects — teamwork can make solving tough problems a whole lot easier.
Keep moving forward: After an exam, focus on the next one instead of worrying about what's already done. It's all about looking ahead and preparing to do your best in the next challenge.

The Liberty Learn platform is available on DSTV Channel 319, OpenView (Channel, 108), and StarSat (Channel 187). The platform also includes a digital app called Liberty Learn, for both Android and Apple users.
