Celebrating a tradition of success : Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology’s top achievers.

Liberty and Kutlwanong Centre For Maths, Science and Technology, are proud to announce the 2016 matric results. Of 147 learners at the Katlehong centre east of Johannesburg, 51 achieved distinctions for maths, and 44 achieved distinctions for science; while the 102 learner’s at the Umbumbulu centre in KZN scored 20 distinctions for maths, and 26 distinctions for science.

The three top performers in maths and science at the Katlehong centre included Bafana Mbata, who scored an impressive 100% for both maths and science; Lesego Ramabya with 100% for maths and 97% for science; and Gift Bongumusa Mbata, who scored 97% in maths, and 100% in science.

At the Umbumbulu centre, the top three performers in maths and science included Sisekelo Mabaso, who scored 92% for maths, and 96% for science; Sanele Mdluli who scored 88% for maths, and 98% for science; and Ngcobo Amanda, who scored 91% for maths, and 91% for science.

“We are incredibly proud of all our learners, especially the top achievers who managed impressive scores against all odds,” says Mr Tumelo Mabitsela, CEO of Kutlwanong. “These results prove that our students have built a strong foundation for a bright future; it will go a long way to secure their futures, and with their work ethic and diligence, they really can be anything they want to be one day.”

Kutlwanong is a non-profit organisation which provides extra classes in maths, science and accounting for students from grade 10 to 12. Liberty sponsors two of Kutlwanong’s centres, one in Umbumbulu in KZN and the other in Katlehong in the east of Johannesburg.

Liberty has funded Kutlwanong’s Promaths programme for five years. Over this period more than 560 learners have completed matric with tremendous results, which continue growing year on year.

On behalf of everyone at Liberty, I wish to congratulate all the 2016 graduates, especially these top performers, who have demonstrated tenacity, perseverance, and willpower to achieve such impressive matric results.”
