"We’re incredibly excited for the Randburg Harriers Challenge — it’s always a highlight on the Vitality Run Series calendar. Events like this bring our values to life: promoting healthier lifestyles, building community, and making movement accessible to all. This year, we’re especially proud to spotlight our Give2Move initiative, which invites participants to bring along a pair of pre-loved running shoes. It’s a small gesture that can make a big difference in helping someone else take their first step towards a more active life,” says Celeste Williams, head of marketing at Discovery Vitality.

Give2Move: making movement possible for all
Launched in February in collaboration with the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, the Vitality Give2Move campaign is a nationwide initiative aimed at breaking down barriers to physical activity. By collecting new or gently worn running and sports shoes, the campaign helps provide under-resourced communities with the tools they need to get moving and live healthier lives.

South Africans are encouraged to donate shoes at convenient drop-off points across the country, including:
• Discovery offices and Discovery stores nationwide
• Select Virgin Active and Planet Fitness locations
• Select Sportsman’s Warehouse stores
• Discovery Soccer Parks
• Selected parkrun events

For those who don’t have shoes to donate, financial contributions can be made to support the purchase of new pairs through Afrika Tikkun, a trusted non-profit organisation.

Mari Leach, Head of Physical Activity at Discovery Vitality says: “The Give2Move initiative is about more than just donating shoes — it’s about unlocking access to movement for those who need it most. Every pair collected helps someone take their first step toward a healthier, more active life. By removing barriers to physical activity, we’re not only promoting individual wellbeing but also strengthening communities across South Africa. It’s a powerful reflection of Discovery Vitality’s mission to make health and movement accessible to all.”
