Joshua kids enjoy a day of honing their sport’s skills
It was a day of excitement for the kids from the Joshua Programme in Hillbrow when the employees of Aon South Africa took them to Dinaledi Creche in Hillbrow to participate in a netball and soccer skills and drills programme on the afternoon of 21 May.
Aon South Africa has been involved in the Joshua Project since it opened its doors and provided kids living in Hillbrow with afterschool facilities and tutors to assist with literacy and homework assignments.
“Children from five schools in the area come to the Aftercare facility and we thought that with the excitement of the World Cup in the air, now would be a great time to help them develop positive sports skills too,” said Sandra Hutchison, Human Resources Executive for Aon Sub Sahara Africa.
The kids received a T-shirt, soccer balls, lunch, juices and snack packs sponsored by Aon and Clover. During the day they were taught new skills and ways in which they could focus on improving their skills in the future. They were also taught various exercises to keep them strong and healthy. “At Aon we strongly promote education, healthy minds and bodies and this initiative falls right in line with that. The kids also had great fun while they were learning which was very rewarding to see,” said Disebo Monama, Human Resources Executive of Aon South Africa, “The kids got to enjoy just a little of the World Cup ‘gees’ and who knows, there might be some future Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana stars amongst them!”
