19 August 2024 The Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA)

The Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA) is delighted to announce the official launch of its Lesotho Chapter, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of risk management practices across the African continent.

This launch event will take place on Wednesday, 18 September 2024, bringing together key leaders and professionals from various sectors to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities facing the Kingdom of Lesotho.

IRMSA CEO Yvonne Mothibi says: "We are thrilled to establish the IRMSA presence in Lesotho, a nation with immense potential and a need for robust risk management practices. This move is not just about geographical growth; it is about fostering a stronger, more resilient risk management culture across the continent. Lesotho professionals are now part of a larger network dedicated to advancing risk management, and we warmly welcome them into the IRMSA family."

The establishment of the Lesotho Chapter aligns with IRMSA's ongoing commitment to advancing risk management practices across Southern Africa. The organisation has consistently aligned its initiatives with national development goals, and the expansion into Lesotho underscores its dedication to supporting sustainable development and economic growth within the region.

The region faces myriad risks that pose challenges to both the private and public sectors. In the public sector, issues such as governance challenges, and inadequate infrastructure continue to hinder sustainable development. Additionally, the ongoing impacts of climate change, coupled with health crises such as pandemics, present significant risks that require coordinated and effective management.

On the private sector front, businesses are grappling with economic uncertainty, cyber threats, and the need to innovate rapidly in response to technological advancements. The integration of comprehensive risk management strategies is crucial for navigating these challenges and ensuring the resilience of both sectors across the continent.

The theme of the launch event, “Working towards a Sustainable Lesotho through Risk Management,” resonates with IRMSA's annual theme, "Sustainable Futures." This theme highlights the critical role that risk management professionals play in shaping a sustainable future for organizations and society, ensuring long-term resilience and growth in an evolving global landscape.

Attendees at the event will include representatives from both the public and private sectors, risk professionals, board members, and executives. The event will serve as a platform for fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and addressing the pressing challenges that impact the future of Lesotho and its people.

IRMSA's expansion into Lesotho is a testament to its vision of being the leading risk management institute in Southern Africa, dedicated to the advancement of the risk management profession through research, promotion, education, training, and strong relationships with institutes and associations across the globe.
