High schools set hot pace in JSE/Liberty Life Investment Challenge
As asset managers struggled to mitigate the effects of market volatility, the leading high schools in the JSE/Liberty Life Investment Challenge set a hot pace.
Top performers for April in the speculator category for aggressive investors achieved 11% growth for the month while the equity category winners made a 9% gain. The top income portfolio for April achieved a real income of R7 990 while growing the underlying portfolio by R25 800.
All ‘ghost traders’ start with a notional portfolio of R1 million to be used in virtual online transactions.
Howard Fox (pictured right), divisional director, marketing at Liberty Life noted: “It’s a challenging period for even the most seasoned investment professionals, but the leading teams in the high school version of our challenge have done extremely well.
”The pupils are learning valuable lessons about risk, market volatility and the effects of interest rate movements on the economy. You don’t gain insights like this from a textbook.”
