Feed Our Nation feeds 31 560 children between October and November 2008

02 December 2008 | People and Companies | News | Feed Our Nation

Feeding the children of South Africa is what Feed Our Nation is all about and the steady success of the initiative shows in the figures to date. Since launching in October 2008 Feed Our Nation, with the assistance of the Starfish Greathearts Foundation and two of South Africa’s telecommunications organisations, Centratel and Mitel, has raised more than 31 560 meals for distribution across 120 communities throughout South Africa.

Feed Our Nation’s aim is to help make a difference to the thousands of orphaned and vulnerable children across South Africa. With the kindness and generosity of many South Africans (food purchases have also been received from Australia and the United Kingdom), Feed Our Nation has been able to make a big difference and is putting more food onto many more tables.

With Feed Our Nation, people are encouraged to buy food directly from http://www.feedournation.com/ or via the Feed Our Nation SMS service. It’s easy for the public to get involved by sending the word “Food” to 39766 via SMS. Each SMS, charged at R15.00, buys a 500g bag of nutritious and balanced food. Each purchase is able to make meals to feed up to 8 children for only R15,00. Together with the ongoing support of South Africans, Feed Our Nation would like to keep food in the stomachs of the countries future.
