Fedhealth takes over the Tour De Tuli sponsorship

10 December 2010 | People and Companies | News | Fedhealth

Fedhealth Medical Scheme has announced that it is to take over naming rights for the Tour de Tuli from Medscheme in 2011. The Tour de Tuli is a four-day, 320 km annual mountain-biking race routed through four national parks starting at the Limpopo Valley Airfield in Botswana and ending in Mapungubwe National Park in South Africa.

Medscheme CEO André Meyer, says that the company had originally entered into a series of cycling-related sponsorships as a logical extension of its branding building strategy. “However going forward, Medscheme’s strategy will be to partner with its open scheme clients and the Tour de Tuli sponsorship will be used to build Fedhealth medical scheme’s brand.

“The Tour de Tuli is a unique cycling experience which raises awareness of our pristine wilderness areas while encouraging South Africans to take responsibility for their health by living healthy lifestyles and taking care of the environment. These attributes represent a perfect strategic fit with Fedhealth’s objectives,” he adds.

Katy Caldis, CEO and Principal Officer of Fedhealth, agrees saying Fedhealth saw this sponsorship as an opportunity to support an event that promotes wellness and sustainability. For Fedhealth, sustainability, not only of the scheme but also the health of its members and the environment, is key.

“We encourage our members to be responsible for their wellbeing and our strategy is to work alongside members and healthcare providers to ensure this can be achieved. This cycling event is not only about exercise but also about establishing a refreshed holistic view on health, managing stress, enjoying the environment and supporting environmental sustainability,” she says.

Through sponsoring this event, Fedhealth is enabling those who take part, many of whom are business leaders, to network and renew their perspective on life as they face the daily physical challenges on the route.

“We are enthusiastic about associating our scheme with this event and the benefits it offers to the cyclists as well as Children in the Wilderness that relies on the Tour de Tuli as its primary fundraising event. The 2011 Tour looks to be just as exciting as past years so cyclists – get your entries in soonest!” concludes Caldis.
