Ertjies Bezuidenhout’s Legacy is Honoured

20 September 2013 Bestmed

Cycling community continues to pay tribute to cycling legend at the Bestmed Campus to Campus Super Classic.

Ertjies Bezuidenhout, a member of the Bestmed Cycling team, who passed away in March 2012, will once again be remembered by the South African cycling community at the 8th stage of the annual Bestmed Campus2Campus Super Classic on 22 September 2013.

“The Bestmed Campus2Campus Super Classic will each year honour the patron of Campus2Campus, Ertjies Bezuidenhout, and a great rider and all-round nice guy, who won the King of the Mountains title in the Rapport Tour a magical seven times and completed the Carnival City Macsteel Classic in February 2012,” says Wynand de Villiers of ASG.

This year’s event, with over 1000 cyclists expected to participate, will be hosted from the Potchefstroom Military base and will feature 95km and 35km distances. “The 95km event is the perfect training ride for cyclists aiming at participating in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge. It may consist of mild rolling undulations, but it is very quick and a perfect ride before the Cycle Challenge. Cyclists can expect a perfect road surface this year as the contractors are working hard at filling every pothole before the race,” adds de Villiers.

Bestmed Medical Scheme in partnership with the Cancer Association of South Africa and Incolabs will be promoting the use of sunscreen products for the cycling participants and the spectators alike at the race. “We are proud to be part of this event that honours the man who made a huge impact on the cycling sport in South Africa. We are committed to preventative healthcare and healthy lifestyles and this commitment is underpinned by our strategic wellness pillars of Be Active, Be Safe, Be Nutri-Wise and Be Happy. Our partnership with CANSA and Incolabs allows us to educate people about these pillars that will lead to a more productive and happy nation,” says Sasja la Grange, Bestmed’s Corporate Communications Manager.

“The Campus2Campus is one of many cycling races that Bestmed sponsors each year,” comments La Grange, “We believe that sporting events encourage people to exercise, which is a key factor in achieving and maintaining optimal health.

“Bestmed wishes all of the riders a safe and enjoyable ride,” concludes La Grange.
