Award winning economist, Mike Schüssler, joins 2020 Top Wealth Manager Brenthurst Wealth as a consulting economist this month to provide his expert economic insight and analysis to the company’s clients and advisory team.
“Schüssler’s interrogation and evaluation of economic data is exceptional and will add significant value to our investment committee, our advisors and our clients. The impact of the global Covid-19 pandemic on economies and markets has created extraordinary volatility. His assessment of this impact as well as other factors that affect market movements, will assist us in decisions around portfolio construction to serve the best interests of our clients,” says Brian Butchart, Managing Director of Brenthurst Wealth.
Magnus Heystek, co-founder, director and investment strategist of Brenthurst Wealth says Schüssler’s fearless commentary has made him a popular media spokesperson and public speaker. “Mike has participated in several of the investment seminars Brenthurst has hosted in the past five years and his contribution is highly valued.”
Schüssler holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Johannesburg and is the founder and owner of economics consultancy Economists.co.za, established in 2005. He has won the Economist of the year title presented by Media24 twice and came fourth in the Reuters economic competition in 2010. Economists.co.za are the producers of the BankservAfrica Economic Transactions Index, the ABSA SMME index, which serves as an index that provides insight into the number of businesses and self-employed in the South African economy, and the South African Employment Report for trade union UASA.
“Brenthurst Wealth is known for its commitment to keep its clients informed about markets and investment matters. Economists.co.za has provided presentations to Brenthurst by invitation in the past, in terms of our agreement this is now formalised and we will develop exclusive reports and presentations for its client base and guest attendees at events,” Schüssler says.
The first Economists.co.za presentation for Brenthurst will be hosted as a webinar after the presentation of the national budget by Finance Minister Tito Mboweni at the end of February. “Considering the dramatic further deterioration of the South African economy in 2020 and worsening fiscal situation, the 2021 budget is likely to deliver a number of shocks and surprises. We look forward to Schüssler’s interrogation of the budget and how that will impact investment decisions at our first event of this year,” Butchart says.
