Deloitte’s 2010 survey rates Medihelp an employer of choice in SA
Medihelp has recently been recognised as South Africa’s seventh best medium-sized company to work for by Deloitte’s influential Best Company to Work For survey for 2010.
Medihelp is the only medical scheme or medical scheme administrator who has been awarded a top ten position in the small, medium or large company categories of the Survey. In addition Medihelp is included in Deloitte’s list of ‘standard of excellence achievers’ for companies who have achieved an overall average score that is higher than the standard of excellence threshold.
According to Anton Rijnen, Principal Officer and CEO of Medihelp, the Scheme has improved its position steadily since it has achieved tenth place in 2007. “This is the second consecutive year we have achieved seventh place, after out eighth position in 2008. For Medihelp it is an achievement especially if it is taken into account that the Scheme competed against companies like VIP Payroll, Pfizer Laboratories (Pty) Ltd and Hollard Insurance Company Limited,” he says.
Rijnen believes by participating in this annual survey Medihelp demonstrates its ongoing commitment to being an employer of choice and putting its employees first. “Without informed and dedicated staff, a company cannot achieve its goals. But that alone is not good enough. Staff members must also be happy in what they are doing and this environment and atmosphere motivates people to walk the extra mile for the company to the greater good of all involved, says Rijnen.
“At Medihelp our staff turnover is very low. The average period of time a Medihelp staff member is employed at the Scheme is currently 10 years. This shows that our staff values our human resource strategies, business practices and leadership capabilities and is willing to support the achievement of our goals,” he says.
The Deloitte survey is one of the most influential business surveys in South Africa and is the only one of its kind where the input of staff members are acquired to determine the company’s performance. A total of 83 companies from all over the country participated in the three categories of the survey.
