Bidvest Insurance took action this Mandela Day by allowing their employees to spend 67 minutes helping deserving initiatives and organisations across the country.
Five different Bidvest Insurance teams with approximately ten to fifteen volunteers per team visited various causes on the day which included Khulani Children’s Shelter in Durban North, La Lucia Baby House, the Durban SPCA, Umhlanga UIP Assist and the Kids Haven and SPCA in Benoni.
Not only was quality time spent at the various organisations by the dedicated Bidvest Insurance staff, but much needed donations and resources were also collected and donated as well. The Khulani Children’s Shelter received a financial contribution towards their electricity bill as well as toiletry gift boxes that were handed out to their girls and boys aged between 9 -17 years old. Donations of baby supplies such as nappies, baby wipes, shampoo and vouchers for medication for the children of the La Lucia Baby House were also collected and donated by Bidvest teams.
The Bidvest Insurance team that visited the Durban SPCA handed over dog treats and much needed pet supplies, and willing volunteers helped the Umhlanga UIP Assist organisation plant succulents along the beach to preserve the sand dunes and made a donation to their Lagoon project. And finally, in Johannesburg Bidvest Insurance staff took 60 breakfast packs filled with nutritious and delicious food items and treats to the children at Kids Haven Benoni to enjoy. A monetary donation was also made to the Kids Haven to assist them with essentials and bills that need to be settled. They also made a huge donation of dog and cat food at the Benoni SPCA.
Managing Director of Bidvest Insurance, Phillip Donnelly, was delighted with the effort that the various Bidvest Insurance teams put into giving back on Mandela Day, as well as the number of many deserving causes the company and its staff were able to support. “Mandela Day always makes us stop and think about the wonderful humanitarian and leader that Mandela was. One of our company’s values is to “Be Kind” and that to us means being kind to our staff, customers, community and our environment. That’s why Mandela Day is always an important day on our calendar – among the many other days we dedicate to CSR initiatives throughout the year. I am proud and grateful for all the hard work and commitment that our teams showed leading up to and on Mandela Day and we encourage everyone to continue living the legacy every day that the late Madiba left for us as South Africans”, stated Donnelly.
