Assupol Life honours the memory of late Constable Ngwenya

20 October 2009 | People and Companies | News | Assupol Life

Assupol Life has learnt with regret of the violent death of student constable Ngwenya who was stationed at the Silverton Police Station in Pretoria after his basic training in 2009.

Assupol Life wants to extend its condolences to his mother, his family, colleagues and the SAPS in general. Student constable Ngwenya was one of many student constables who were insured with Assupol Life during their training phase throughout the country. Assupol Life was introduced to these student constables as a result of an agreement and partnership with the SAPS to do proper financial planning with these young inexperienced people during their training.

As a result of this financial planning student constable Ngwenya decided to apply for an Assupol Life policy which was a combination of savings and accident cover which commenced on 01/05/2009. The accident benefit of R100 000 was specifically added to his savings policy in the light of the dangerous environment the SA Police Members are operating in and in which student constable Ngwenya eventually paid the highest price.

Assupol sales manager, Mark Botes and a delegation of Assupol representatives visited the SAPS Silverton on Friday 16 October 2009 to hand over to Snr Supt Matji a letter of condolences for the loss of their colleague. Assupol Life again reiterated the importance of life, accident, disability and funeral cover to members of the station.

Student constable Mandla Emmanuel Ngwenya was murdered at 02:00 on Saturday 10 October 2009 and on 14 October 2009 his accident benefit of R100 000 was deposited into his mother’s (beneficiary) bank account.

Assupol Life wants to congratulate the SAPS management for their foresight to ensure that young members are adequately advised to take the responsibility to ensure that their families will be taken care of financially in the event of them being killed in line of duty. Although no policy or monetary benefit can ever replace student constable Ngwenya, he however took the responsibility and a R100 000 was paid to his mother.
