Absa makes 1200 blankets worth R86 400 for Tshwane charities

Absa and the City of Tshwane partner to donate 1200 blankets to Tshwane charities.

In response to the call to make blankets for charity as part of the 67 Blankets for the Nelson Mandela Day initiative, Absa donated 1200 blankets to the Mayor of the City of Tshwane, Solly Msimanga.

In conjunction with the City of Tshwane Councilors, the bank’s Branch Managers donated the blankets to various orphanages and old-age homes in the Tshwane community.

Absa’s staff from the greater part of Gauteng North voluntarily contributed their time and resources worth an estimated R71 400, to make the blankets since May. Two of the bank’s customers supported the initiative by jointly donating R15 000 to the cause, raising the total contribution to R86 400.

Mayor Msimanga said: “We are truly proud to make every day a Mandela Day and help many people in Tshwane stay warm in the winter months in partnership with Absa.”
“This year marks the 100th birthday of former President Nelson Mandela who believed that each individual has the ability and responsibility to make an impact through public service on a daily basis.”

This is what Africanacity is all about,” said Oscar Siziba, Absa Managing Executive of Private and Business Banking in Gauteng and Limpopo.

An Absa customer also transported all blankets and distributed them to the needy together with Absa and the City of Tshwane at their own cost.
