Absa helps beat the winter blues in Soweto

10 July 2014 Oscar Siziba, Absa

Set to donate close to R100 000 to Orlando Children’s Orphanage.

Absa’s Business Bank in Gauteng will contribute the equivalent of just over R100 000 per year in cash and kind to the Orlando Children’s Home in Soweto over the next three years. The Home, which looks after children who have been abandoned by their parents, will receive assistance with educational and developmental initiatives in addition to financial support.

Oscar Siziba, Gauteng Provincial Head of Absa Business Banking, said: “We intend to continue to make a difference in the communities in which we operate. We believe that by creating a better living and learning environment for the children of Orlando Children’s Home, we are creating a force for change in this community.”

Absa’s relationship with the Home started in April this year. The second phase of Absa’s contribution sees the recent introduction of a Winter Collection Drive supported by Absa Business Bank Gauteng employees who collaborated to collect winter garments, blankets, non-perishable foods and toys that were donated to the Home today.

Two further phases are planned for the rest of the year to supplement the support to the Home.

So far this year Absa has donated a new jungle gym to the Home. It has also rebuilt and replaced old and derelict parts of the residence and set-up a complete irrigation system to support a sustainable vegetable garden.

The Home looks after 60 children, ranging in age from a three-month-old baby to a 20-year-old.
