93c petrol shock: There is light at the end of the tunnel

05 September 2012 www.findalift.co.za

The rising cost of motoring and its side effects are having severe implications on individuals and business. Every day there are millions of empty seats on our roads and we all know many people travel the same direction at roughly the same time each day.

‘Life’s greatest rewards are reserved for those who bring joy to the lives of other people - we believe and live that: Findalift.co.za helps South African’s save money and travel better by providing a free and secure online tool to help individuals find others travelling their way. Without knowing of an easy way to find potential travel companions commuters may feel unable to share journeys.
Sharing journeys reduces the consumption of fossil fuels and result in significant cost savings. It’s not rocket science that a car carrying 2 people is going to be nearly twice as fuel efficient as two cars with just one person in each and take up half the amount of road space.

Sharing a modest journey of 25km to work and back can save you over R500 per month
We are all interested in the word ‘save’, so how much can you actually save from sharing a journey? FindaLift has developed a comprehensive calculator that enables a member to see the potential monetary and environmental savings from sharing a journey either on a once-off basis or annually. By showing commuters what they could potentially save we believe this will encourage people to register on the system and see if there’s anyone going their way that they can share with. After all it takes less 5 minutes to find out. Members can easily keep track of all their savings in their personal accounts.

Instant travel buddies – Got spare seats?
Findalift.co.za has already welcomed over 5500 members nationally and allows you to quickly find others travelling your way so you can decide to share the journey. Register for free, confirm your start location and desired destination on the map and add your journey details. Then simply click on the 'search for matches' button and matches will be displayed instantly. Once you've decided on a suitable match you can make secure contact through the website and send a 'request to share'. Your request to share can then be accepted and journey sharing begins. Personally identifiable information about you is never shared.

Change will happen, science has reduced the power of the mainframe into a wireless phone in just one generation. Now the internet is further accelerating change in this new third industrial revolution of decentralised, sustainable energy.

If everyone added their daily journeys on Findalift.co.za we can all really help each other!
