21 January 2025 Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA)

The highly anticipated African Insurance Exchange (AIE) 2025, hosted by the Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) and the South African Insurance Association (SAIA), will take place from 27-30 July at Sun City.

This year’s theme, “The Baobab Advantage: Multifaceted Growth and Continuous Evolution,” is inspired by the iconic baobab tree, a symbol of resilience, adaptability and longevity. The conference will delve into strategies for the insurance industry to thrive amidst rapid changes and emerging challenges.

Thokozile Mahlangu, CEO of the IISA, explains the significance of the theme: “The baobab represents strength , diversity and interconnectedness - values that are crucial for the insurance sector. Like the baobab that flourishes in challenging environments, our insurance industry must embrace change and innovation to address pressing issues such as climate change, economic volatility and technological disruption, while continuing to support sustainable growth.”

Key focus areas for AIE 2025:
• Harnessing innovation: Leveraging AI, data analytics and insurtech to drive operational excellence and customer centric solutions.
• Empowering professionals : Providing cutting-edge insights and training to equip industry leaders with future-ready skills.
• Expanding markets : Exploring untapped opportunities in Africa’s underserved African regions to enhance financial inclusion.
• Championing sustainability : Integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices into insurance operations for a sustainable future.
• Multifaceted growth: The industry’s multifaceted role – promoting economic stability and safeguarding lives and assets.

Mahlangu continues, “AIE 2025 will bring together key stakeholders – insurers, brokers, regulators and innovators – to foster collaboration and shape a resilient industry that remains relevant in a fast evolving global landscape.”

Participants can expect thought-provoking discussions on regulatory changes, evolving customer expectations and risks brought by digitisation and climate change. Additionally, opportunities presented by generative AI and robotics will be a focal point of the conference.
