Top speakers to headline the Morningstar Investment Conference in Johannesburg this month

Industry experts and thought leaders to provide insights on market developments and global issues

The much-anticipated Morningstar Investment Conference returns for its 11th annual event in Johannesburg this year, bringing together some of the financial industry’s top minds and a line-up of engaging international and local speakers.

This year’s event, which is to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 20 September, will explore the impact of accelerating technologies, emerging asset classes and new investing paradigms in the investment landscape, offering cutting-edge research and deep insights to help you see the big picture.

Highlights of this year’s conference include:

• STANLIB Chief Economist Kevin Lings will discuss whether there is light at the end of the Polycrisis Tunnel. The global economy has been battered by the ongoing war in Ukraine, climate crisis, and elevated global inflation levels. The widely accepted view is that globally we are on the right track, but are we out of the woods?
• James Bullock, Portfolio Manager at Lindsell Train, Gurpreet Gill, Macro Strategist for Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Sean Neethling, Senior Portfolio Manager at Morningstar Investment Management will explore the topic of rethinking global investing and asset allocation beyond equities.
• Associate Editor of The Daily Maverick Ferial Haffajee will interview Adv. Anton du Plessis, Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions at the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa on whether the Zondo Commission delivered on its mission to uncover the culprits behind allegations of state capture, corruption and fraud in South Africa, and whether justice has in fact been served.

Other notable speakers include Tim Acker, Portfolio Manager at Allan Gray, Georgina Smith, Head of Business Distribution and Sales at INN8 and Jaco van Tonder, Advisor Service Director of Ninety One.
