Gathering top industry representatives to discuss the prickly and topical issues of the day

Global investment research firm, Morningstar, has unveiled the agenda for the 2022 Morningstar Investment Conference South Africa. The event will take place on Wednesday, 19 October 2022 at the Century City Convention Centre in Cape Town and will also be streamed live directly from the conference hall for advisers that would prefer to attend digitally.

This year's agenda will explore the impact of far-reaching geopolitical events across the globe, the future of renewables and South Africa’s power supply concerns as well as insightful discussions regarding local and global equities.

“In a time of extraordinary geopolitical volatility coupled with rising inflation and interest rates, financial advisers are seeking answers and guidance about making appropriate investment decisions with their clients,” says Tal Nieburg, Managing Director of Morningstar South Africa.

The Morningstar Investment Conference South Africa brings together industry leaders and investing experts to share research, discuss the latest developments and provide new perspectives for investors.

“As we continue to face a challenging market environment, we’ll be looking to explore where the opportunities lie, how investors should balance risk and reward, and what greylisting would mean for South Africa. Now, more than ever, Morningstar aims to keep advisers well informed with in-depth research, expert opinions and insights to assist them and their clients in navigating these uncertain times,” Nieburg adds.

Highlights of this year’s conference include:

Refilwe Moloto, sits down with Trudi Makhaya, Economic Adviser to President Ramaphosa, to discuss the South African economy and what an ideal ‘Record of Advice’ for South Africa Inc. would look like.
• South African equities can no longer be discussed without considering the impact of global events. Our panel of experts discuss how local equities stack up in the current environment as we are joined by Gail Daniel (Ninety One), Piet Viljoen (Counterpoint Asset Management) and Evan Walker (36ONE).
• We shine a light on the grey elephant in the room. From “greylisting” to B-BBEE, the landscape for financial advice keeps changing. In this panel, Pieter Koekemoer (Coronation Fund Managers), Tamryn Lamb (Allan Gray) and Sangeeth Sewnath (Ninety One) will dissect important topics impacting the investing landscape in South Africa.
• In our all-female panel, we tackle the topic of women in finance, by women in finance. Maya Fisher-French, Kim Potgieter (Chartered Wealth Solutions) and Seugnette van Wyngaard (1st for Women Insurance) join forces to discuss both the evolution of female advisers as well as advice for females.
• Willem van der Post will end the day addressing the topic of future frenzies and trends: the blurring lines between right, wrong, respected, and ridiculed. Willem will offer a glimpse of international trends and how to prepare for the future

The Morningstar Investment Conference is built around cutting-edge research; insights that bubble up the key messages of that research, and analysis that spots trends and patterns to help you see the big picture. Now is the perfect time to put it all to work. It’s time to take stock of our goals, realise new opportunities, and build the future.
