The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) 11th Annual Conference

15 September 2014 | People and Companies | Events | ABSIP

The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) will hold its 11th Annual Conference on Thursday September the 25th2014. The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rosebank, Johannesburg from 07.30am. The objective of this event is to analyse economic transformation in Africa, how this transformation will be achieved and funded. The manufacturing industry has been identified as one of the major contributors to the economic growth in Africa. It is developing at a vast pace and it would be beneficial to take advantage of it now. The questions to how this will be accomplished will be tabled on the day.

Prior to the organisation’s 10thconference in 2013, President of ABSIP, Tryphosa Ramano, said “While South Africa remains Africa’s most attractive foreign investment destination, other markets on the continent are fast catching up,” and catch up they did. In April 2014, South Africans woke up to a new reality that we are no longer the largest economy on our continent.

This finding undoubtedly put a dent in South Africa’s national pride. However, it also give us an opportunity to consider how our two economies; along with others can stand in relation to each other. We may now be smaller than Nigeria, which is well known for textile manufacturing, but how do we compare and contribute in other ways?

Also addressing the conference is The honourable Deputy Minister of finance; Mr. Mcebisi Hubert Jonas. His take on the role of the financial sector in manufacturing and other economies will add great value to the day’s discussions. The Deputy Minister had stated in his Budget Vote Speech this year that “The Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) will continue to contribute to the government’s efforts to improve the standard of living of our people through the growth of our economy.” To achieve this, engagements need to take place between governments and the private sector, as they influence economic performances at large.

While ABSIP strives to “Lead the Way” in finance, it calls upon industry leaders to join us in analysing and forming solutions on how to fast track the Economic Transformation in Africa.

Hear from and engage with leaders in the economic industry like Mr. Ketso Gordhan, CEO, PPC Ltd and Ms Nicky Newton-King, CEO of The Johannesburg Stock Exchange during the panel discussions. Facilitators include Mr. Victor Kgomoeswana Author of “Africa is open for Business”, Ms. Polo Radebe CEO, IDF Managers and Ms. Mmakgoshi Lekhethe, Deputy Director General, International and Regional Economic Policy, National Treasury.
