Striking The Balance Between Consumer Protection And Business Risk
As you all know, the CPA was gazetted on 29 April 2009 and consolidates and modernises several core consumer protection laws in South Africa, and provides more consistent coverage for both goods and services.
The Consumer Protection Act greatly strengthens the protection for consumers against unfair, misleading and aggressive commercial practices, but what does it mean for your business?
No business is excluded, as yet, and you will need to familiarise yourself with the details of the Act, sooner than later and be compliant by October 2010.
To assist you in getting the right answers, Intelligence Transfer Centre will host a CPA conference on 9 & 10 December with 10 industry experts speaking. The DTI will facilitate a half-day workshop within the conference on “the impact of the Consumer Protection Act.”
Issues that will be discussed include: how to simplify the CPA and guarantee compliance, aligning your business dealings with the new Act and ensuring that CPA requirements are incorporated into your business processes to reduce risk.
