Shedding the light on industry myths

19 January 2018 | People and Companies | Events | FMI Wealth

Your clients have dreams for the future… whether it’s that once in a lifetime holiday or planning for their retirement, they want the comfort, security and independence that comes from knowing they are adequately providing for themselves and their spouse. To ensure their dreams become a reality, they need a carefully structured investment plan, but what would happen if they got sick or injured and couldn’t earn an income – even for just a few months?

At FMI, we believe wealth creation and wealth protection go hand-in-hand.

All independent financial advisers are invited to join us for what promises to be a thought-provoking morning with three of the insurance industry’s top thought leaders – Adrian Saville, Rob Rusconi and FMI’s CEO Brad Toerien - as we challenge some of the commonly held assumptions that drive financial planning today.

Rob is a self-employed actuary with extensive experience in insurance, pensions, health care, institutional investments and social security, both locally and internationally. He has advised Southern African governments, insurers and pension funds and carried out work for the World Bank and OECD. He recently returned to independence after a four-year stint looking after Lombard Life, a long-term insurer that meets customer needs through partners.

Adrian's successful career includes consulting to government and the corporate world. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and books, and is a member of the Investment Analysts Society and Economics Society of South Africa. An area of focus in his work is the competitiveness of companies, industries and countries which leads to an enquiry into what enables businesses and investors to succeed in an increasingly dynamic, and often-times harsh global environment.

After studying actuarial science at UKZN, Brad joined FMI in 2003, and has led the company as CEO since 2008. He has overseen a period of exciting growth for the business, culminating in the acquisition by Bidvest and the completion of FMI’s suite of Life benefits. Brad is passionate about developing and distributing products that protect an individual’s greatest asset: their ability to earn their monthly income. This philosophy has been the driver behind the development of FMI’s product range over the years, and he remains determined to keep revolutionising the customer experience and risk insurance space.
