SDT's Du Toit to speak at ITWeb conference on SOA for micro insurers
SDT Financial Software Solutions executive director Freda du Toit (pictured) will present how to enable micro-insurance administration solution implementations at ITWeb's Enterprise SOA 2008 conference.
The event takes place at Gallagher Estate in Midrand on October 28.
"The micro-insurance industry is characterised by low premiums and product delivery close to the client's residence, and aims to service low-income earners and people not serviced by traditional insurance schemes," says Du Toit.
"Micro-insurance solutions thus consist of the insurance product supported by a vast network of service points, such as mobile phones, retailers and community or spaza shops. For the insurance provider, administration needs to be automated and affordable. This defines a world where SOA (services-oriented architecture) is a prerequisite for success."
Du Toit is co-founder of SDT Financial Software Solutions, a company in the JSE AltX-listed SilverBridge Holdings group. Her in-depth knowledge of the financial services industry, in particular life assurance, gives her the ability to match business requirements to technical requirements in order to deliver effective solutions that make a difference in her clients' lives.
Du Toit, with a BSc Honours, has made her mark in the IT industry as a specialist with the technical abilities to build software solutions for the long-term insurance industry, as well as one who can reshape the way insurance companies do business. Her innovative skills and understanding of the challenges in the industry have enabled her to play a major role in driving down policy administration cost for insurers.
Du Toit is also director of SilverBridge Holdings, a member of the Institute for Independent Business International and acts as a mentor for Microsoft's Women in IT initiative.
Her presentation will demonstrate the real-life benefits of SOA and how it enables companies to be more experimental and open to collaboration models; as well as how to follow a pragmatic approach and realise value from SOA.
