SA corporates put pressure on SA Challenge

30 August 2007 Challenger World

FINISH LINE SHIFTED TO GIVE COMPANIES THE EDGE

By popular demand the South African Challenge has been shifted to May 2008 to give companies more time to prepare for their quest to be crowned South Africa's best business team.

The event, part of the Intelligent Sport World Series, was due to take place in October this year but following requests from businesses it has been rescheduled to run from Thursday May 15 to Sunday May 18, 2008 in the Breedekloof wine region of the Western Cape.

Teams that have entered, including latest entrant Foschini Sports Division, have welcomed the new dates as it gives them an extended period in which to prepare for the mental tests and physical challenges that form part of The South African Challenge.

The contest will see teams from 50 top South African companies using skills and knowledge developed in the corporate environment to complete a series of challenges combining strategy, intelligence and physical activity. The challenges are kept secret until the day of the event but teams could find themselves kayaking, running, rafting and mountain biking.

"Teams with strategic capabilities, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities will excel in the event," said marketing manager Monique van Heerden.

"Companies should pick members who are fast learners, strong communicators and lateral thinkers. Physical fitness and navigational skills will give teams the edge over competitors, but having a good sense of humour should not be underestimated," she said.

An early bird incentive has been introduced in order to guarantee that companies allow enough preparation time. The first ten teams to enter before September 30, 2007 will receive a 10% discount off their entry fee.
