Young learners currently participating in the Mutual & Federal Leanership and Internship programme, at the conference yesterday.

As a participating exhibitor at the Young Leaders’ Conference that took place in Randburg yesterday, Mutual & Federal was given an opportunity to expand the horizons of South Africa’s young learners by exposing them to careers in the short-term insurance industry. Deeply invested in education and in enabling positive futures, Mutual & Federal shared some learnership and internship opportunities to expose them to career options available when they complete their schooling.

In partnership with My Career in Insurance, the Young Leaders’ Conference, targets underprivileged learners at Grade 10 to 12 level, with the goal of introducing them to the various career options available. The event was attended by several insurance industry players along with institutions of higher education.

At their exhibition stand, Mutual & Federal’s learners (currently on the Learnership Programme) interacted with the young people, sharing their experience with the company and exposing them to the amazing career opportunities, while providing valuable insurance industry information. Each year, the company gives young career hopefuls who qualify, an opportunity to enter into the short-term insurance environment and expand on their experience. This arms them with the tools necessary to embark on a productive and exciting career path.

With their Learnership Programme, Mutual & Federal accepts up to 80 young people and places them in the company’s various departments. This is where the youth are able to develop and hone their skills in the insurance workplace and arm themselves with the experience needed to be marketable in a competitive job market.

In addition to sharing career opportunities, Mutual & Federal in partnership with its mother company Old Mutual conducted a Financial Education session called “On the Money”. The session aimed to educate the young leaders with invaluable techniques of handling finances efficiently, thus creating future responsible economically active population.

This Youth Month, it is especially important to reflect on the fact that our youth bear the biggest burden of high unemployment rate. By arming them with the necessary technical skills and exposing them to career opportunities Mutual & Federal is playing its part in preparing them to take their rightful place in driving our economy.
