The annual Lion of Africa Half Marathon took place on 2 February 2013 at the Cape Academy for Mathematics, Science and Technology in Constantia

The annual Lion of Africa Half Marathon took place on 2 February 2013 at the Cape Academy for Mathematics, Science and Technology in Constantia.

The event, which is sponsored by Lion of Africa Insurance, features a 21.1km run as well as the Philip Rabinowitz 10km walk and a 5km fun run in honour of the legendary Spartan Harriers club member who passed away at the age of 104 in February 2008.

Open to runners of all fitness levels, the race dawned with clear skies and warm morning temperatures that complemented the scenic and challenging marathon.

The turnout hit record numbers with 4000 runners. The overall male winner of the 21.1km run with the time of 1:09:43 was Tom Lusaseni (Itheko). Winner of the female 21.1km run category was Yolande McLean (Jeppe) with a time of 01:22:51.

According to Rethabile Mahuma, Manager: Brand Marketer at Lion of Africa Insurance and the Lion of Africa Insurance race organiser, the event has become one of the premier races on the Cape Town running calendar.
