Discovery announced the date of its eighth Discovery Leadership Summit to be held in Sandton, Johannesburg on 14 November 2016. The Summit is a flagship, global thought-leadership event that enables the sharing of intellectual capital to contribute to leadership in business, government and civil society.

"It is a privilege for Discovery to host this Summit. It has grown into an exciting platform to stimulate debate on globally relevant issues as we bring the most brilliant thinkers to share their strategies, insights and thoughts around leadership, economics, government and business. As an organisation, we are constantly challenging conventional thinking to find ways to achieve positive change, and through the Discovery Leadership Summit, our aim is to inspire thinking that will ultimately manifest in action for positive leadership and change in South African society and business,” says Adrian Gore, Discovery Group Chief Executive.

This year, the Summit’s theme is Inspiring Minds. While the final list of speakers, including local visionaries, will only be announced closer to the event, attendees can already look forward to hearing from some leading global thinkers, including Arianna Huffington.

Huffington is the co-founder and former editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post who now heads up Thrive Global. This corporate consumer wellbeing and productivity platform is aimed at changing the way people work and live by providing ongoing support to reduce stress and eliminate burnout.

Creator of the philosophy that has supported ten Formula One World Championship titles, Dr Aki Hintsa is also speaking at the Discovery Leadership Summit. A specialist in orthopaedic and trauma surgery, his healthcare company, Hintsa Performance, helps athletes, individuals and companies focus on holistic wellbeing and, through that, maintain peak performance.

Joining this year’s lineup is renowned Harvard historian and columnist for Newsweek, Niall Ferguson. His most recent publication Civilization: The West and the Rest, explains the dominance of the West through competition, science, democracy, medicine and consumerism. Also, author of Soccernomics and a leading Financial Times journalist, Simon Kuper will inspire the audience with his insights and analogies from economics, statistics, psychology and business to cast a new and entertaining light on the game of soccer.

The Discovery Leadership Summit will take place on 14 November 2016 at the Sandton Convention Centre. The one-day event includes international speakers and panel discussions, and will run from 08:30 to 17:00. More information is available at www.discoveryleadershipsummit2016.co.za.
