Financial Planning Institute (FPI) Convention Line up better than ever

Jake White to deliver keynote address

The Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI) has lined up a truly global cast of speakers for the 14th Annual Convention being held on 28 and 29 May 2008 at Gallagher Estates.

“The members have been surveyed for input and it's clear that they want to hear a mix of global and local experts on all aspects of Financial Planning,” says FPI General manager – Marketing, Mersey Booysen. “So this year we have revised the structure of the Convention to provide attendees with plenary sessions where they can hear the keynote speakers, and breakaway sessions in Employee Benefits, Health Planning, Practice Management and Shariah. All breakaway sessions will run from 2-4pm on the first day and will not clash with any plenary sessions.”

In keeping with this year's Convention theme of “Global Excellence in Financial Planning”, the current speaker line up is:

Dan Moisand, Chairman : Financial Planning Association (USA) is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and a partner in a successful independent practice. He has been recognised by several publications including; Financial Advisor magazine dubbed him a “Future Star.” (2002);one of the most influential practitioners in Financial Planning magazine’s "Movers & Shakers"; twice as a member of Investment Advisor magazine’s IA25; and Worth magazine named him one of the best advisors in America. In 2007, he serves as national Chairman of the 29,000 member Financial Planning Association.

Dan’s uninhibited, frank yet friendly style has earned him invitations to speak to planner and consumer groups across North America and as far away as France and Japan.

George Kinder, Founder of the Kinder Institute of Life Planning is internationally recognized as the father of the Life Planning movement, and has been a practicing financial planner and tax advisor for nearly 30 years. His book, “The Seven Stages of Money Maturity: Understanding the Spirit and Value of Money in Your Life”, is considered by many to be the seminal work in the burgeoning field of Life Planning. Among his numerous awards, Financial Planning magazine also named him to their 2005 “Hall of Fame” – Kinder was one of only three financial planners whose name appeared next to John Bogle, Alan Greenspan, Loren Dunton, Burton Malkiel, Charles Schwab and Suze Orman.

Krista S. Sheets - President : Paragon Resources, Inc., will speak on Practice Management - focusing on team development and client service. She is a Team Architect and Developer dealing with all issues of

designing and developing teams. She consults with teams on partnership viability, team member roles and responsibilities that capitalize on each person's talents, optimal team structure, and implementation of Paragon's practice management tools and processes.

Phil Billingham is the CEO of Perception Support (UK) and joined the Financial Services profession in 1982. After becoming the first ever Fellow of the Society of Financial Advisers, Phil is a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and is an Associate of both the Chartered Insurance Institute and of the Compliance Institute. He was the Chairman and founder of the IFA T&C Officers forum and was a member of the working party that designed Sofa's 'Quality Training Initiative' as well as the Institute of Financial Planning's 'CPD working party'. In November 1999, Phil was elected as a Member-Director of The Society of Financial Advisers (SOFA), serving as Vice-Chairman from 2002 to 2003.

Bruce Maclaren is a 30 year veteran of the IT industry, with international experience spanning more than 25 years. His passions focus on superb customer service and a win/win approach results in increased business success rates; and the essential characteristics and personal balance we need to thrive in today’s hectic life style. His subject at the Convention will focus on the parallels between excellence on the sports field and success in the market-place, and the personal values and attributes needed to survive and thrive in this quest, as well as the parallels between survival, success and longevity in the harsh African bush and how these relate to the competitive world we live in today.

Daniel Silke - Political Analyst, specialises in South Africa as well as Global/International Relations. He is also a specialist lecturer on issues surrounding Globalization and the Future of the World. He holds a Masters degree in International Politics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. And served six years in publicly elected office between 1995 and 2001, having faced three elections. He has served four

years as a Member of Parliament in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in Cape Town, South Africa after being reelected in 1999. He has held the Chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Economic Affairs, which includes the portfolios of Economic Development, Tourism, Agriculture and Transport. In addition, he served on the Committees of Finance, Health and Gambling and has been Chief Whip for his political party.

Prof. Malcolm Mcdonald is a legend in global marketing sectors and was until recently Professor of Marketing and Deputy Director, Cranfield University School of Management (UK), with special responsibility for e-business, and is now an Emeritus Professor at the University as well as being an Honorary Professor at Warwick Business School. He has written over 40 books including the best seller ‘Marketing Plans: How to prepare them, how to use them’. He will be speaking on “From Strategy to Share Price- how to assess whether your strategies are creating or destroying shareholder value.”

Dr Kobus Neethling is the President of the South African Creativity Foundation. He holds six degrees including two Masters, a Doctorate and Post-Doctorate (cum laude) in the identification and development of creative behaviour (Universities of Cape Town and Georgia-USA). He has written more than 80 books and 9 TV series including a number of international best-sellers: Creative People can perform Miracles, Courage to Shake Hands with Tomorrow, Am I clever or am I Stupid, Whole Brain Sexuality and Relationships, Talk to your Food, Smart Parents (Series of 4), Creative Rugby.

The Convention will be conducted by MC Paul Roelofse, who, as an independent CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® licensee with over 20 years experience in the industry, is back for a second year, by popular demand. He has built his practice on the approach that, sound financial advice does not only rest on the qualifications and experience but as importantly it's about people and their understanding of money matters.
