Assupol proudly presents 2nd annual Hugh Masekela Heritage Festival

13 October 2014 Assupol

Assupol is proud to announce the return of The Hugh Masekela Heritage Festival to the soils of Soweto for the second year running. This not-to-be-missed festival, presented by Assupol and Kaya FM, takes place on Saturday 29 November.

The musical offering is hand-picked by bra Hugh himself to celebrate South Africa’s rich cultural heritage. He is passionate about the power and potential of our nation’s cultural diversity: “There is so much diversity in our country, and it is high time that we celebrate that.” And this is the very reason for the variety of musical styles the line-up offers attendees which include Tsepo ‘The Village Pope’ Tshola, The Soul Brothers, Beatenberg, Jeremy Loops, Laurie Levine and Josie Field. The night’s festivities will close with Hugh Masekela taking to the stage to share jewels from his repertoire, a body of music that stretches over half a century of creative input.

Bra Hugh is an ardent advocate of the nurturing of our cultural heritage, especially among our youth. At the recent inaugural Hugh Masekela Annual lecture he stressed the importance of appreciating and treasuring our own culture and heritage: “We are becoming a society that imitates other cultures, yet we have the biggest diversity of heritage”.

The Hugh Masekela Heritage Festival is a day of family fun, with entertainment available for all ages. Following on last year’s success, this year’s festival is sure to again be an amazing day of music, culture and entertainment.

Mariëtte Oosthuizen, Senior Brand Specialist at Assupol, said, ‘music, entertainment and good food are an integral part to this inventive festival and we are at the same time, both honoured and excited to be part of it again. It showcases some of our brilliant local talent which promises an even more memorable experience than last year’.

But what about the BRICS?
Compliance burden remains, grey-list or not.
End-2025 exit is too optimistic.
